The vest is in memory of Lansing firefighter Peter Coscarelli, who had a beloved German Shepherd rescue dog.

It was donated by a group called Vested Interest in K9s Inc. They're an organization from Massachusetts that provides bullet and stab-protective vests to law enforcements dog all across the country.

Each vest has a five year warranty, and costs anywhere from $1,700-$2,300.

The family of Coscarelli provided most of the money for the vest, which is why it's in his honor. His namd is embroidered on the vest.

This video of Maverick, the township's K-9 officer, training is amazing! So glad he has a protective vest now!
