How are things between you and your significant other this month? Just asking. If things seem a little tense there may be a good reason: March has become the most popular month of the year to file for divorce.

It seems that searches for things like“divorce,” “family law” and “child custody” jump more than 50 percent between December and January, reaching a peak in March — a trend that mirrors divorce filings across the country.

So why would March be the hot month and not others?

Here are some of the reasons that experts suggest: taxes (jointly filing as a married couple can be a money-saver), holiday affairs that have recently been discovered, and parents who stayed together just long enough for their kids to have one more family Christmas.
