The ban will include times when students are in class, as well as when they're in the hallway(s) with a pass.

Starting this fall, Lakeview High School in Battle Creek will enforce the ban. The principal sent home a newsletter to parents, saying that they won't be "frisking" kids. But, if they're spotted using their phones (or other devices like an iPod), they'll be violating the policy.

Students found with phones during class will have to drop them off in the In School Suspension room, and then return to class.

The decision was made by the school board last Monday, after discussions with the high school advisory committee, which is made up of teachers and support staff, and also with the parent advisory committee. They cited that the phones are a distraction, with kids playing games, texting and surfing the internet.

Call me crotchety, but why the heck would a kid need a cell phone DURING CLASS anyways? I have no problem with this, but I'm sure there's a parent that WILL have a problem with it.
