Saturday marks the opening of trout season on the Type 1 and Type 2 streams in Michigan, as well as the walleye, northern pike and muskellunge in Lower Peninsula inland waters. Large and smallmouth bass can be caught and released immediately. Bass can be kept and eaten after the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 26).

Species like catfish, yellow perch, sunfish, white bass and smelt can be caught and kept year-round.
