Davison Festival of Flags Begins July 4th With Fireworks & More
The Davison Festival of Flags has moved. Instead of starting late in July, the festival in the City of Flags will begin on July 4th with a parade on Main Street, fireworks at Abernathy Park, and carnival rides and the entertainment tent in new locations.

Grand Blanc Grad Geena Gall Qualifies for Olympics in 800 Meter Run
Grand Blanc's Geena Gall becomes the Flint area's second Olympian for the 2012 London Games as she qualified second in the 800 meter finals last night at Oregon's Hayward Field. Gall put on a furious kick with about 200 meters to go to pass several runners and grab a spot on the Olympic team.
Volkslaufe 10k/20k/5k Races July 4th in Frankenmuth
The Volkslaufe, a.k.a. "The People's Race" will take place on the 4th of July in Frankenmuth. There are three different race distances, 10k, 20k and 5k plus a children's run. All races start and finish in Heritage Park. The 10k starts first at 8 am, followed by the 20k at 8:10 then the 5k at 10. The kids run starts at 11.

Run Hadley 5k on 4th of July
Some people head to the big city on the 4th of July. Others run in the opposite direction. If that is you, head for the quiet country hamlet of Hadley for the "Not your ordinary Run-of-the-Mill race." The race starts and finishes at the Hadley Mill in Hartwig Community Park.

Davison High School grad Melanie Peters (nee Schultz) will be running the 2012 Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run, starting tomorrow morning in Squaw Valley, California. This will be her first attempt at running 100 miles, but she has surprised many in her running career as she increases her distance.
