How does the new BYOW law, in effect starting today, make life better for Michigan's wine drinkers? Find out.

House Bill 5046 allows bars and restaurants with existing liquor licenses to let their customers bring in their own wine. Michigan's wine lovers can also take home an unfinished bottle, as long as it's capped. The new BYOW law goes into effect today (March 14).

Resorts and hotels are exempt from the new law and it's recommended that you call ahead if you plan to take your own wine. Under the new law, bars and restaurants are allowed to charge a corckage fee.
