Does it seem ridiculous that you have to withdraw more money than you need from an ATM just because the stupid thing doesn't dispense the correct amount. Tuck this post into the "it's about time!" file.

Chase Bank has launched  between 350 and 400 ATMs over the last 18 months that dispense $1 and $5. They expect that number to double by the end of the year. These new machines, located inside branches and in drive-thrus will even be able to dispense coins.

PNC Bank, meanwhile, has upgraded over 7,200 existing ATM machines to dispense the smaller dollar increments, and the rest of the bank's ATMs should be upgraded by the end of this summer.

Both banks offer smarter choices for customers who may have low account balances, or for customers wanting to withdraw less than $20. "Particularly in difficult financial times when people's account balances have been lower, not having to withdraw more money than you really need is helpful." said Greg McBride, senior financial analyst at Bankrate.com.

Will this give you more banking options? Don't you think ATMs should have been this way all along?
