    Search the Internet for Key Details

    Most apartment communities have websites that will answer many of your questions regarding their community including apartment styles, floor plans and amenities. You may also log onto apartment locator and/or apartment ratings websites to gather more independent information regarding each community.

    Ask People You Know For Feedback

    Contact people you know and trust and find out their opinions on where to rent. This can be the single most important place to get honest feedback.     Call the Apartment Community Directly

    Calling the community will provide you with your first glance at the community. Is your phone call answered promptly? Is the person answering the phone friendly and professional? This will help you gauge whether or not it's the right community for you.

    Ask the Important Questions

    What are their current specials? Do they offer any additional discounts? For example, offers additional discounts for medical personnel, teachers, law enforcement, fire department and seniors. Ask any question that would be a deal breaker if the community didn’t offer it (such as their pet policies). What is the Application Fee, Fee to hold an apartment, and Security Deposit requirements? Ask if you may set an appointment to view an apartment.

    Know What to Bring to Your Community Visit

    - Driver’s License or other form of Photo I.D.

    - Proof of Income (i.e., pay check stubs, social security stubs, etc.)

    - Previous addresses of places where you have rented
