After almost five years as a prisoner in Iran, former U.S. Marine and Central High School graduate Amir Hekmati was finally released last weekend. After a medical layover in Germany, Hekmati finally made it home to Flint's Bishop International Airport just minutes ago.

After meeting with his family, who joined him on the plane for a moment when it landed, Amir emerged to cheers and applause. He said to local media, "I appreciate everyone's support. It's great to be back in Flint, my hometown. I love this city, I love its people. They've been so good to me and my family and we're very grateful. I'm happy to finally be home. It's been a very long road, a very long journey."

Welcome home, Amir! Flint missed you dearly!
