It all started with an argument over a broken dryer. Lawrence John Ripple was arrested for suspected bank robbery, and told police that he committed the crime so he could be arrested and taken to jail, in order to get away from his wife.

Reports say the man handed the teller a note that demanded money, and said he was armed. He had written the note in front of his wife, saying he'd rather be in jail than at home. Ripple had been arguing with his wife of 33 years, after he had neglected to fix their broken dryer.
