A 7-year-old Michigan boy is alive thanks to his 8-year-old sister.

Chad and Charity Fenwick were playing on the banks of the St. Joseph River near Kalamazoo Wednesday when Chad was suddenly pulled underwater and was not able to get back on his feet.

"We did not think it was a bad idea ... at the time. I mean the water looks harmless!" she told WWMT. "He was kind of drifting out and the water was pushing him over there. His head was actually under water. He kept yelling, ‘Help, Help!’”

Charity then jumped into the water and held her brother while holding onto a tree branch until their father arrived. He performed CPR on his son until a Michigan State Police trooper arrived.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. His parents say he may spend several weeks in the hospital.

Charity, who is being called a hero said, “I feel kind of happy, but do feel sad about my brother being in the hospital.”
