The family of a 15-year-old honor student at Sterling Heights High School is mourning her loss, after she was fatally shot Sunday. (10/16)

The girl and her family were attending a birthday party for a relative, when a driver began speeding up and down the street. When family members confronted the driver, asking him to slow down, a passenger in the vehicle began spraying gunfire in the family's direction. 15-year-old Jada Rankin was the only one struck. She died later at an area hospital.

The school's principal tells WXYZ Jada was among the "brightest and best," maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, playing on the school's football team, and being elected to the Homecoming court.
